Value for Members

The BC Salmon Farmers Association proudly promotes delicious and healthy BC farmed salmon and represents the interests of its member companies –farmed salmon producers and their suppliers and service providers. BCSFA communications focus on building community, developing outreach and promoting awareness. This enormous task involves initiating, supporting and facilitating intra-industry, industry/government, national and international relations. The association acts as a collective voice for responding to media requests and plays a proactive role in letting the public and retailers know that BC farmed salmon is not only good for you, but is produced in an environmentally sustainable manner by community-oriented companies.

Builds Community Through

• Participation at the Union of BC Municipalities Convention, the Women of Resource Communities Conference and the West Coast Women’s Show
• Sponsorship of local networking events, such as the Aquaculture Pacific Exchange Conference and Tradeshow
• Dialogue with coastal communities and First Nations

Develops Outreach Via
• Operation of salmon farm tours for the public and special interest groups
• Representation at national and international conferences and events
• Production of advertising that promotes BC farmed salmon in Canada and the United States
• Cooperative development of salmon farming curriculum for BC classrooms

Promotes Awareness Through
• Participation at BC Food Services Expo, EAT! Vancouver
• Participation on national and international boards, associations and committees
• Representation and facilitation of the BC Salmon Farmers’ voice at Special Committee on Sustainable Aquaculture hearings

Ensures Industry Sustainability By
• Coordination of research development and responses to ongoing, upcoming and current regulatory issues via the BCSFA Technical Committee
• Maintenance of the Fish Health Database
• Supporting and voicing the environmental and community sustainability efforts of member companies
